The Archive

The University of Osnabrück‘s Historical Picture Postcards Archive was established in 2010 with the donation of Prof. Dr. Sabine Giesbrecht‘s collection to the University Foundation of Osnabrück. Through further donations from Prof. Giesbrecht and gifts from other collectors, our holdings have grown to over 20.000 historical picture postcards and motif cards.

The collection is kept in the Osnabrück University library. Researchers can view our holdings on the archive premises by appointment. Since 2001, however, the collection has also been continuously digitised and presented on the internet to researchers and interested members of the public. We are currently working on a new, up-to-date database and in-depth indexing of our holdings.
